Hand over your first workflow to an AI agent

Prepare the task, inputs, approval rules and a human fallback for your first agent workflow.

Write a brief a person can check.

Name the task, input, finished output and reviewer. State what the agent may prepare and what it must never send or change.

1. Define done

Describe one useful result. A source-linked enquiry summary and reply draft is clear. “Handle enquiries” leaves too much undecided.

2. Set the limits

List the allowed sources and tools. Write approval rules for messages, bookings, payments and record changes. Name the approver and backup.

3. Plan for awkward work

Missing or conflicting facts must reach a person. If a tool or approver is unavailable, hold the task visibly and name the next owner. Keep a manual way to finish.

4. Test before handover

Run an ordinary item, missing input, duplicate, conflicting instruction, missing tool and absent approver. Compare each result with its source. Where sending or booking is in scope, check the actual downstream result.

Your handover worksheet

  • Task and business owner
  • Trigger, inputs and approved sources
  • Tools and allowed actions
  • Expected output and completion check
  • Approver and backup
  • Exceptions, pause rule and next owner
  • Six test cases and evidence
  • Handover date and first review

Use safe examples, not customer records or credentials. If a permission or result cannot be checked, keep the workflow in draft.
